At Bishopstone CE we follow the National Curriculum and aim to develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities, aiming to make sure children:
- are physically active for sustained periods of time
- engage in competitive sports and activities
- lead healthy, active lives.
SBC have launched the new 'Swindon School Physical Activity Framework' in the Summer of 2017. As a school we have taken this and are now looking at improving provision wherever we can. Click here to see the full details of this.
"The Swindon Framework for PE and School Sport has been produced by a range of key stakeholders including Teachers and subject specialists, sports development professionals and those involved in Public Health. It seeks to promote every child's right to a healthy and happy life focusing on the value of PE and school sport in closing the inequalities gap, improving life chances and making a positive impact on many of the wider challenges facing schools."
We have a set of 10 swimming lessons that take place in the summer term at Milton Road Pool in Swindon. The whole school attends this together. Reception through to Year 6 complete the set of lessons, being tested at the end and gaining the relevant swimming award.
We work in partnership with Premier Sport who provide high quality P.E lessons in partnership with our teachers.
We have developed links with Alfresco Nursery and now hold some activity based clubs on their vast land, inviting children from the nursery to also participate.
Year 4,5 and 6 children completed their Junior Prince Award, coached by SkillForce (2015-2016). The award aims to help learners develop leadership skills such as organisation, communication and teamwork, as well as helping to develop confidence and self-esteem. Please click here to see the scheme of work that they follow.
Year 1,2 and 3 children completed their Prince William Award, coached by SkillForce (2016-2017), where they also performed for and with Prince William!
