The school utilises policies both from school, Swindon Borough Council and also regularly looks at updates on the Swindon Local Safeguarding Children Board - http://www.swindonlscb.org.uk/Pages/Home.aspx. However:
The transition to the new Swindon Safeguarding Partnership came into effect on Sunday, 28 July 2019. The Swindon Safeguarding Executive has been established to oversee the new Multi-Agency Safeguarding Arrangements for children (formerly the LCSB) and adults at risk (LSAB) in response to the recent government guidance Working Together 2018. The lead representatives on the Executive are David Haley, Corporate Director Childrens Services (SBC), Sue Wald, Corporate Director Adult Services and Health SBC), Gill May, Director of Nursing and Transformation (CCG), and Deborah Smith, Detective Superintendent Head of Public Protection (Wiltshire Police).
The safeguarding partners in Swindon are committed to a partnership model that focuses on continuous learning and improvement with a clear line of sight on frontline safeguarding practice. The partners will promote a shared commitment to work together to improve outcomes for children and adults at risk.
Bishopstone Behaviour Policy
We follow a clear set behaviour policy which is firstly linked to our Christian Values, then in turn based around ‘Golden time’ which has been developed by Jenny Mosley.

Bishopstone School Attendance
At Bishopstone School we believe in offering the best life chances to all children. Good attendance is vital to good academic progress and achievement. As a school we are doing our best to monitor and improve individual attendance.
We follow strict guidelines and work closely with our designated Education Welfare Officer (EWO) at Swindon Borough Council. We expect all parents to contact the school on the first day of absence. Where attendance falls you will be required to attend a meeting with the Headteacher
Please remember that your child’s attendance is your responsibility and is a legal requirement. You can no longer take your child out of school in term time for a family holiday or days out.
Parents do not have a right to take their children out of school for the purposes of a family holiday. By law a Head Teacher may not grant any absence in term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Parents wishing to apply for their child to have leave from school should complete this form and return it to school for authorisation well in advance of the proposed leave.
Swindon Borough Council recognises that the school is capable of accommodating 49 children in two classrooms, but the school’s admissions limit for each year group has been officially set at a maximum of 7.

Anti-bullying Policy - Valuing all God's Children
Setting a culture where children respect themselves and each other, whatever the culture
Bullying runs counter to the ethos of openness and trust which we aim to foster at Bishopstone C.E. School. It undermines the spirit of community and Christian values. We value a child’s emotional stability knowing that a happy child is one that will learn and fulfil its potential. In addition, we recognise that the need to bully can be a manifestation of an individual’s own problems. We are committed at Bishopstone to providing a caring, friendly and safe environment for all of our pupils so they can learn in a relaxed and secure atmosphere. Bullying of any kind is unacceptable at our school. If bullying does occur, all pupils should be able to tell and know that incidents will be dealt with promptly and effectively. We are a TELLING school. This means that anyone who knows that bullying is happening is expected to tell the staff. Miss Lindsay also has attended the Stonewall’s Tackling Homophobic, Biphobic and Transphobic Bullying course (2017).

Collective Worship Policy
Worship is an important part of the school day, as through it we offer the opportunity to explore, reflect on and respond to the mystery and meaning of the Christian faith. All acts of worship are in accordance with the school’s Trust Deed which states that worship should be “in accordance with the principles and practices of the Church of England.”

E Safety Policy
This policy applies to all members of the school community (including staff, pupils, volunteers, parents / carers, visitors, community users) who have access to and are users of school computer systems, both in and out of the school. The school will deal with such incidents within this policy and associated behaviour and anti-bullying policies and will, where known, inform parents / carers of incidents of inappropriate online safety behaviour that take place out of school.

Food and Drink
Children can bring their own lunch or from September have a cooked school meal. They can also bring a bottle of water to drink throughout the day. From Reception to the end of Year 2 the children are given a piece of fruit every day. From Year 3 to Year 6 you will have to provide your children with a healthy snack (ideally fruit based) for their mid-morning snack.

Gifted and Talented policy
At Bishopstone we believe in nurturing every child's talent and ability. For those who are excelling at least a year above their age we look at enhancing the curriculum in different ways. For example joining up with other children in the cluster to work on a project, or if in agreement with their parent the child may work within a different year group for their particular talent/gift.
We have recently adopted a school wide approach to handwriting which follows the Penpals handwriting scheme. For more detailed information please see attached policy and links to the Penpals website.

We have introduced a homework policy this year that feeds into what the children are learning in the classroom. This was introduced to parents at the 'start of year parents meeting'. We review this regularly using parental feedback.

Letting of Premises
We are more than happy to negotiate the use of school space outside of school hours. Please contact the school office to arrange an appointment to discuss this.

If your child requires medicine to be kept in school then a plan will be made with the school Nurse. The school nurse will also give any training required to staff members. Please fill in the form to bring in with the medicine. If medicine has been prescribed by a doctor - 3x a day, then this can be given before school, on return from school and at bedtime.

What is Prevent?
Prevent is part of CONTEST, the Government’s strategy to address terrorism. The main aim of Prevent is to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. Prevent focuses on all forms of terrorist threats. E.g. international terrorism, far right extremists (among others). Three key themes
The police, Local Authorities, and our partner organisations are working together to help strengthen and empower our communities to reject those who want to cause harm. We work together and focus on three key themes:
Safeguarding vulnerable individuals through the provision of advice and support and intervention projects.
Working closely with institutions such as Universities, Schools, Prisons, Health, Charities and faith establishments.
Challenging terrorist ideology by working closely with other local and national agencies, partners and our communities
The Prevent Engagement Team of officers and police staff aim to encourage discussion ensuring that terrorism is prevented from taking root in our communities. They support the wider engagement activities already taking place in schools, places of worship and community groups.
Through this work they aim to strengthen communities in order to challenge the ideologies and messages of hate which lead to terrorism.
How you can help?
It is important that we all work together, so that we can protect our communities. There are many ways you can help:
You can get in touch with your local neighbourhood or Prevent team for advice and support, if you are worried about someone you know who you believe may be vulnerable to radicalisation
You can speak to your local officers or Prevent contact about helping run community events to bring people from different communities together
You can provide facilities that could help us and our partners hold community engagement events.

Images for school and family use, and those that appear in publications such as newspapers, are always a source of pride and much cherished mementoes of a child’s time at school. Bishopstone School considers that parents should be given the opportunity to take images, such as photographs, for their personal use, while taking into consideration the fact that care must be taken with particularly vulnerable children.

Religious Education Policy
Bishopstone Primary School provides Religious Education for all pupils registered at the school. It is taught in accordance with the locally agreed syllabus ‘Swindon Agreed Syllabus for R.E 2016-2021’. A new scheme of work was introduced from Easter 2017. We supplement the scheme with extracts from the bespoke curriculum designed for school by Dimensions alongside the additional resources from ‘Understanding Christianity’. Religious Education has the same status and importance as all other subjects.
As the scheme states:
‘RE explores big questions about life, to find out what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live, so that pupils can make sense of religion, reflecting on their own ideas and ways of living.’
Remote Learning Policy
This policy follows the DfE template on how we will provide learning to children based at home during the Coronovirus pandemic 2020.
Parents must not post pictures of pupils, other than their own children, on social networking sites where these photographs have been taken at a school event. Photographs posted on the school website must not be posted elsewhere, including on to any social media site.
Parents should make complaints through official school channels rather than posting them on social networking sites.
Parents should not post malicious or fictitious comments on social networking sites about any member of the school community.
A Social Media Policy is currently being created, please speak to a member of staff if you have concerns prior to this being published.
The school does not have a social media account - no Facebook or Twitter currently.

Navy/black 'hoody' style top for winter use - in response to having windows open in the school due to Covid19 we have introduced a school logo warm hoody - this can be purchased from January 21 through the school provider.
The staff and governors of Bishopstone School seek to run all aspects of school business and activity with full regard for high standards of conduct and integrity. In the event that members of school staff, parents, governors or the school community at large become aware of activities which give cause for concern, Bishopstone School has established the following whistleblowing policy, or code of practice, which acts as a framework to allow concerns to be raised confidentially and provides for a thorough and appropriate investigation of the matter to bring it to a satisfactory conclusion.
